New coaches often bring fresh ideas, and Chennai’s camp is full of them. Talks are moving fast behind the scenes and fans are watching closely. Here is a clear look at the story so far.
Gareth Batty Set to Join CSK Ahead of IPL 2027
Former England off-spinner Gareth Batty is close to a role with Chennai Super Kings. Reports say he could become the team’s batting coach for IPL 2027. CSK has not made the move official, so fans must stay patient.
CEO Kasi Viswanathan told The Times of India that talks are underway. He said an announcement could arrive within a couple of days.
“We are in discussions with him. The negotiations are underway, and an announcement is likely in a couple of days,” CSK CEO said.
Who Is Gareth Batty and Why Does He Fit?
The 49-year-old played 9 Tests, 10 ODIs and one T20I for England. He also has plenty of coaching experience, mostly in English domestic cricket.
Batty guided Surrey to three straight County Championship titles and a second-place finish. He also knows Zaheer Khan well, because they played together for Worcestershire. That history could help Batty settle into the new group quickly.
Zaheer Khan replaces Stephen Fleming as head coach for IPL 2027. Fleming spent 16 years with CSK and guided the club to five IPL titles. Zaheer will lead the revamped staff as CSK tries to return to title contention.
Mohit Sharma is now confirmed as bowling coach, and Zaheer backed him for the job. A deal for Batty would add another specialist to the support staff. Together, these names would give Zaheer a fresh and balanced coaching group.
Why CSK Needs a Fresh Start
Chennai Super Kings won their fifth IPL title in 2023 but things changed soon after. They missed the playoffs in 2024 and finished last in 2025.
Those two poor seasons pushed the club to make big changes behind the scenes. CSK hopes the new group can help it fight for the title again.
What Fans Can Expect Next
News that Gareth Batty set to join CSK has already excited many supporters. Still, we must wait for the club to confirm the final deal.
Reports about Gareth Batty will likely grow once the club speaks. A good batting coach can sharpen a team’s technique and plans for each match.
