Cricket fans love to see old heroes return to the game in new ways. A well-known Indian all-rounder has just made a surprise move that people are discussing. Let us look at the details simply and clearly.
Irfan Pathan Joins Afghanistan Premier League as Ambassador
The former India all-rounder now serves as ambassador of the Kandahar Warriors franchise. The league shared the news on its official social media account on October 24, 2026.
Irfan Pathan joins Afghanistan Premier League at an exciting time for its new franchise teams. He joins a league that is trying to grow Afghanistan’s franchise cricket.
The Afghanistan Cricket Board announced the relaunch of its franchise league in December 2025. The move followed the collapse of the earlier T20 league in the country.
Organisers hope to attract big investors from around the world to support the new competition. They also want to build a stronger domestic franchise system in Afghanistan.
Teams, Draft and Start Date
In late August 2026, the board revealed the league trophy and three franchises. Those teams are Axcel United Kabul, Balkh Zwanan and Kandahar Warriors.
Reports suggest about five teams will play, so two more announcements are still pending. The league will hold its player and coach draft soon, with the auction in early November.
The tournament could start in December 2026, but organisers haven’t shared fixtures or venues yet.
What Pathan Said About India’s Win
Irfan Pathan also shared his thoughts on India’s second T20I against New Zealand. He praised Tilak Varma for batting well at different spots in the order. In a post on X, he called that versatility admirable.
Pathan also posted a separate message praising Nitish Kumar Reddy for his role in the win. India lost several top and middle-order wickets but still won a thrilling match in Christchurch.
Captain Shreyas Iyer led the side as Tilak Varma, Reddy and Naman Dhir drove the recovery. Varma won Player of the Match for his unbeaten knock of more than 50 runs.
Why This Move Matters
Fans will now watch how Irfan Pathan helps Kandahar Warriors build a strong fan base. The ambassador role could bring fresh attention to the league before its December start.
