Mumbai Indians endured their worst IPL campaign in recent memory this season. The five-time champions finished near the bottom of the points table. Several senior players underperformed throughout the tournament badly contributing to this disaster.

One name stands out among the disappointing performances surprisingly this year. Usually reliable and match-winning, this bowler struggled massively to find his rhythm. His statistics reveal a shocking story of decline during IPL 2026.
The numbers posted this season make unwanted history in T20 cricket. Nobody expected such a dramatic fall from one of cricket’s best.
Jasprit Bumrah’s Dismal Season
Jasprit Bumrah played 13 matches for Mumbai Indians throughout IPL 2026. He bowled 49 overs across those games trying to find form. But only 4 wickets came from all that effort disappointingly.
His economy rate stayed under 9 which sounds decent superficially. But the lack of wickets tells the real story clearly. Bumrah’s bowling average reached 102.5 this season shockingly!
That’s the worst bowling average in T20 cricket history ever. The record applies to any bowler who’s bowled 40+ overs. Bumrah’s inability to take wickets hurt MI’s campaign massively throughout.
The Hidden Injury Issue
MI head coach Mahela Jayawardene revealed crucial information after the season. Jasprit Bumrah managed a niggle picked up during the T20 World Cup. He played through pain throughout that tournament before IPL started.
The franchise gave him rest hoping for a complete recovery initially. But the gradual build-up affected his pace during the first 4-5 games. His usual speed and aggression went missing from his bowling.
Jayawardene noted that Bumrah finally regained his pace during the later matches. But execution sharpness suffered while managing the injury constantly. The timing and yorker accuracy everyone expects wasn’t there.
Impact on MI’s Campaign
Bumrah’s struggles meant MI lacked a strike bowler throughout IPL 2026. Other bowlers couldn’t fill the void his poor form created. The team needed him to take wickets during the powerplay and death overs.
Health-wise Jasprit Bumrah reached 100% by season’s end according to Jayawardene. But the damage was already done for MI’s campaign. Their playoff hopes died long before he fully recovered sadly!
