Rohit Sharma’s name has once again come up in the discussion in the cricket world. Former India cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu has come out in support of Rohit Sharma.
Sidhu shared a post on social media, in which he said that we should always look at the brighter side of life.
He recalled India’s T20 World Cup 2024 triumph under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy and said that Team India is still a big force in limited-overs cricket.
Rohit Sharma’s career
Rohit Sharma is currently in the best phase of his career. His performance in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 was extremely disappointing. He failed to live up to the expectations of cricket fans by scoring just 31 runs in three Test matches. This is the same Rohit Sharma who had led brilliantly in the T20 World Cup 2024 and led the team to the title.
In that tournament, Rohit not only led the team but also scored 257 runs at an average of 36.71. He was also the second highest run-scorer in the tournament.
Sidhu made a very important point in his post,
“Don’t ever look back, maybe something is getting on you… India is still at the top in limited-overs cricket. “
He also praised the captaincy of Suryakumar Yadav, who has replaced Rohit in T20Is. Under Surya’s captaincy, the team has won 14 out of 17 matches, which is a great achievement.
2024 has been mixed for Rohit Sharma. The T20 World Cup win at the start of the year gave his career new heights, but after that his form continued to decline. His performance in Test cricket was particularly worrying.
Even in the series against Bangladesh and New Zealand, he struggled to score runs. In 10 home Tests before the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Rohit scored 133 runs at an average of just 13.30, which included just one half-century.
But Navjot Singh Sidhu believes that a player like Rohit Sharma has to go through such a phase.
He said that under Rohit’s captaincy, India not only won the World Cup but also beat strong teams like South Africa and Sri Lanka at their home. Sidhu also said that the sky is the limit for India in the shortest format.
Rohit Sharma was ruled out of the first Test due to the birth of his second child. In his absence, Jasprit Bumrah will lead the team. After coming back, Rohit’s bat remained silent in the second and third Test as well and he was out of the last match.
