Former Pakistan fast bowler Wasim Akram recently made a comment about India’s surprising 0-3 loss at home to New Zealand. Akram said that Pakistan would have an advantage over India in Test matches especially on spin-friendly pitches.
India’s defeat to New Zealand was a big shock since it was their first home Test series loss in 12 years. Indian batters struggled against spin throughout the series, with New Zealand’s left-arm spinners Mitchell Santner and Ajaz Patel causing major problems.
When asked about a possible Test series between India and Pakistan, Akram said that Pakistan, led by Shan Masood, would have an edge on turning tracks, especially after India’s recent loss to New Zealand. He added that a series between these two cricket-loving nations would be great for the sport.
“I would want to see a Test series between India and Pakistan. Pakistan can now beat India on the turners,” Akram said during the first ODI between Australia and Pakistan, as reported by The Indian Express.
“It will be massive. It will be good for the game, for two cricket-crazy nations. Pakistan has a chance to beat India in Tests now on a spinning track. They were beaten 3-0 by New Zealand at home,” Akram remarked.
Both India and Pakistan will temporarily avoid facing major spin challenges, as they are set to tour Australia and South Africa, respectively, for upcoming Test series.
Sajid Khan, Nauman Ali Took 39 of 40 Wickets in Last Two Tests Pakistan used spin-friendly pitches to their advantage to come back from an early loss in their recent series.
They beat England 2-1 at home, adjusting the pitch conditions midway through the series. Sajid Khan and Nauman Ali took nearly all the wickets in the last two Tests.
After a tough loss in the first Test on a flat pitch in Multan, Pakistan made changes, including resting pace bowlers Naseem Shah and Shaheen Afridi. The two spinners claimed 39 of the 40 wickets in the last two matches, helping Pakistan secure their first home series win since 2021.
