Chennai Super Kings had a really rough IPL season. They finished 8th in the points table. Won only six matches out of fourteen games. That’s a terrible record honestly. The team was nowhere near the playoffs. This is their third straight year missing out.
Looking back at the past three seasons. CSK won just 17 matches total. They lost 25 games combined. That’s a shocking decline from their old days. MS Dhoni and Stephen Fleming used to dominate everything. Now the team just can’t compete anymore.
Fans and experts started asking tough questions. What’s going wrong with CSK basically? Is the coaching the problem here? Should they make changes? The poor performance sparked all kinds of rumors. One rumor involved Rahul Dravid replacing Fleming completely.
The Rahul Dravid Rumor Explained
Several reports claimed Rahul Dravid was in talks with CSK. The former India coach apparently got approached. CSK supposedly wanted him as their new head coach. Dravid had left Rajasthan Royals before this season. He stepped down from India job after the World Cup 2024. So technically he was available for opportunities.
The rumor made some sense honestly. Dravid is one of the best cricket minds. His experience with India was world-class. Maybe CSK thought he could fix their problems. Bringing in such a quality coach seemed logical. CSK fans actually got excited about this possibility.
But then the CEO came out and denied everything. Kasi Viswanathan said no talks happened at all. The franchise hasn’t made any coaching decisions yet. They’re planning a review later apparently. So the rumor turned out to be false basically.
“We have not taken a call on any cricketing matters. We will review at some stage,” CSK CEO said.
Stephen Fleming’s Long History at CSK
Stephen Fleming has been with CSK forever. He joined the team back in 2008. Became head coach in 2009. That’s like nearly two decades with the franchise. He won 5 IPL titles with them. Also won 2 Champions League tournaments.
Fleming is legitimately one of the greatest coaches. His track record speaks for itself clearly. But everyone’s wondering about his future now. Does CSK still have faith in him? After such poor recent performance, questions arise. But the CEO denied that any changes were happening.
What CSK Says About Their Plans
The CEO made it very clear officially. No talks with Rahul Dravid took place. The franchise hasn’t decided anything yet. They want to review things properly. Changes might come but we have not decided now. Everything is still under consideration apparently.
CSK will probably make coaching decisions later. Right now it’s just speculation and rumors. Dravid could coach elsewhere maybe next year. Fleming might continue with CSK still. Nobody knows for sure what happens. The franchise is taking its time deciding things.
One thing is certain though honestly. CSK needs to improve its performance. Three years without playoffs is unacceptable. Something has to change in their setup. Whether it’s coaching or team selection. The franchise must do better next season.
