Lucknow Super Giants finished another disappointing IPL season at the bottom. They managed only 4 wins against 10 losses throughout the campaign. The franchise’s home record looked particularly terrible with 5 defeats there.

This marks two consecutive underwhelming seasons for LSG back-to-back. Last year they won 6 and lost 8 matches finishing 7th. The franchise clearly struggles to find the winning formula under current management.
Their most expensive player carries enormous responsibility as captain and batter. LSG paid Rs 27 crore to sign him before the 2025 season. But results haven’t matched that massive investment at all unfortunately.
Tom Moody’s Strong Hints
LSG director of cricket Tom Moody spoke honestly after the season ended. He suggested that captaincy challenged their leader throughout the campaign significantly. The pressure perhaps affected his batting performances badly according to Moody.
“Very serious consideration” will be given to the franchise’s future leadership. Those words from Moody sound pretty ominous for the current setup. He mentioned needing a “reset” across all departments going forward.
“Certainly we have not lived up to the expectation or the standard that we expect of ourselves. And certainly when it comes to the leadership of the franchise, it is certainly something that we will be taking some very serious consideration to, you know, what it looks like in the future. Like every department, when you reflect on a season, we will be making some considered decisions, but it certainly looks like we need to consider a reset,” Moody said.
The director emphasized collective accountability rather than blaming one individual. But his comments clearly indicate big changes are coming soon. Decisions will be made after calm reflection and proper analysis.
Rishabh Pant’s Struggles
Rishabh Pant scored 312 runs in 13 innings this season. His average of 28.36 and strike rate of 138.05 look modest. Just one half-century with a highest score of 68 not out.
These numbers improved slightly from his 269 runs in 2025. But the captaincy burden clearly weighed heavily on his shoulders. Pant found leading the team challenging while maintaining personal form.
His batting suffered under the pressure of captaincy responsibilities obviously. The wicketkeeper-batter couldn’t deliver match-winning performances regularly enough. LSG needed more from their most expensive player.
Latest Match Defeat
Punjab Kings posted 196 runs for 6 wickets in their latest encounter. Josh Inglis smashed 72 off 44 balls leading their innings. Ayush Badoni and Abdul Samad contributed crucial runs too.
PBKS chased the target comfortably winning by 7 wickets easily. Shikhar Iyer’s unbeaten 101 off 51 balls destroyed LSG’s bowling. Prabhsimran Singh added 69 off 39 balls supporting brilliantly.
