Former Pakistan cricketer Kamran Akmal recently talked about his relationships with the legendary captain MS Dhoni and current Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir.
Kamran Akmal and Gautam Gambhir had some intense moments on the field during their playing days, but Akmal still said they share a strong friendship.
There was a fierce rivalry between Gambhir and Akmal, especially during the 2010 Asia Cup when they had a heated argument that required umpires to step in.
Despite these on-field clashes, Akmal surprised many by claiming he has a strong friendship with Gambhir, even calling him a brother.
When discussing his experiences with legendary Dhoni, Akmal praised Dhoni’s calmness and ability to win matches. He remembered their many talks about wicketkeeping and batting noting Dhoni’s unique mindset and how valuable those conversations were.
Kamran Akmal was quoted by Cricblog saying “No doubt MS Dhoni is someone with a different mentality altogether an absolute match-winner, and he’s super calm. The way he played was fantastic, and he had a fantastic career. We used to talk a lot about wicketkeeping; we used to talk a lot about batting, and yeah, it was often good to talk to Dhoni.”
He added, “We share a good bond and are good friends. Even with Gautam Gambhir too. I mean, me and Gautam are good friends too. I share a good relationship with him. He’s like my brother.”
Interestingly, Gambhir had previously described Kamran as one of the most talkative wicketkeepers on the field, always chatting behind the stumps.
Gambhir himself was known for his aggressive style and had his own fiery moments, including a well-known physical confrontation with Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi in 2007.
