38-year-old Rohit Sharma has created history in the world of cricket. On Wednesday, October 29, 2025, he reached number 1 in the ICC rankings for the first time.
With his stellar performance, the Mumbai batter surpassed current Indian captain Shubman Gill. Rohit Sharma has now joined the select group of Indian batters to hold the top spot in the ICC rankings.

Rohit’s Brilliant Performance
Rohit Sharma performed brilliantly in the recent ODI series against Australia. He scored 73 runs off 97 balls in the second ODI at the Adelaide Oval. He followed this up with an unbeaten 121 in the third match at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
Thanks to these two explosive innings, his rating points increased from 745 last week to 781. Rohit Sharma jumped two places to become the number 1 batter in the ICC rankings, replacing Shubman Gill.
He achieved this feat at the age of 38 years and 182 days, making him the oldest ODI batter to be ranked number 1 in the world.
Rohit becomes the fifth Indian batter
Rohit Sharma is now the fifth Indian batter, after Sachin Tendulkar, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Virat Kohli, and Shubman Gill, to achieve the number 1 position in the ICC rankings.
Shubman Gill’s performance in this ODI series was not particularly impressive. He scored just 10, 9, and 24 runs in three matches, dropping him to third place. His rating is 745 points.
Virat Kohli also scored an unbeaten 74 in the final ODI despite being dismissed for two ducks early in the series.
This increased his rating from 724 to 730, and he remained in fifth place.
Afghanistan’s Ibrahim Zadran is second with 764 points, and Pakistan’s Babar Azam is fourth with 739 points. New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell completes the top five with 734 points.
Rohit Sharma’s achievement is a proud moment for Indian cricket fans. His hard work and consistency have brought him to this position, proving once again why he is one of the greatest ODI batters in the world.
