Ahead of the IPL 2026 auction, the team is preparing to release two of its big stars, Mohammed Shami and Ishan Kishan.
Yes, you heard it right! These two stalwarts, who were bought by SRH at a huge price, will now probably not be a part of the Orange Army in the next season.
What is the whole matter?
Last year in IPL 2024, SRH showed a brilliant game and reached the final, but 2025 was nothing special for them. The team finished sixth and could not make it to the playoffs.
During this, the performance of big names like Mohammed Shami and Ishan Kishan was below expectations. Shami took only 6 wickets in the entire season and his economy rate was also not very good.
At the same time, Ishan Kishan started the season with a blazing century, but after that he could score only 354 runs in 14 matches.
Varun Aaron’s viral statement
SRH recently chose Varun Aaron as their new bowling coach, who has been a part of the team before. But the matter got heated when an old video of him went viral.
In this video shot after IPL 2025 on ESPNcricinfo, Varun was seen saying,
“Shami is at the last stage of his career and is struggling with fitness. Ishan Kishan was also taken at a big price, but now there will be an attempt to buy him back cheaply by releasing him.”
This statement is now spreading like fire on social media.
What will happen to Shami and Kishan
Mohammed Shami, who was bought by SRH for 10 crores, is struggling with injuries. Recently he played for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy, but did not get a place in the Test series against England.
On the other hand, Ishan Kishan is trying to make a comeback in the Indian team by scoring two consecutive half-centuries in county cricket. But his form remains a cause of concern for SRH.
SRH’s new strategy
SRH had bought many big players with a purse of 45 crores in 2025, but now it is thinking of increasing its purse of 21.25 crores further. By releasing Shami and Kishan, the team can bet on new players.
