Something interesting happened on Monday. Suryakumar Yadav unfollowed the Mumbai Indians on Instagram. Deleted all his Mumbai posts and removed Mumbai from his bio. That’s a huge signal. Sports fans immediately noticed.

Social media went crazy. Everyone is asking what’s happening. Is he leaving the franchise? Nobody knows officially yet. But the signs are clear. Something is definitely wrong between the player and the team.
Unfollowing a franchise on Instagram, that’s not normal behavior. Usually players stay connected. Even when things go bad, Suryakumar does something different. Deleted all previous posts and removed the team from the bio. Those are strong actions.
Showing frustration apparently with the team situation. Or maybe a personal decision about moving forward basically. The timing is suspicious. Right after the T20I removal and poor IPL performance. Everything happened together basically. Making speculation intense.
Hardik Pandya did a similar action. Unfollowed Mumbai after the playoffs but followed back after two hours only. That was temporary anger but Suryakumar did a permanent removal. Deleted posts, removed bio, that seems more serious. Like final decision honestly.
Maybe he wanted a clean break from the franchise basically. Nobody knows his exact thoughts or plans yet. But social media activity speaks volumes apparently.
Poor Performance in IPL and International Cricket
Suryakumar Yadav’s form was bad in the IPL 2026 season. He scored 270 runs in 13 matches. The average was just 20 and that’s not acceptable honestly. For a senior player, the strike rate is not impressive. The leadership role didn’t help; the captaincy burden increased pressure.
He led the team in matches while Hardik was injured. But the results were poor. Mumbai lost a total of 10 out of 14 games. Finished ninth with only 8 points. Complete disaster season.
The T20I situation was worse as he lost captaincy to Shreyas Iyer. Dropped from the squad completely for England and Ireland. That’s a massive blow after winning the World Cup recently as team leader. Now completely removed from international cricket.
Everything happened at once. International and franchise problems together basically made the situation very difficult for him.
What’s Next for Suryakumar Yadav?
Currently, he’s leading Triumph Knights in the Mumbai T20 League. The team has lost all three opening matches already. Sits last among teams. 8 franchises total basically. So the losing streak continues.
Recently scored 48 against SOBO Mumbai. But the team still lost. Individual performance matters less when the team keeps losing. Frustration is building up in Suryakumar Yadav.
Mumbai Indians’ situation unclear. Will he actually leave or just needs time. Social media activity suggests. Exit possibility is real, but nothing is confirmed. BCCI or the franchise hasn’t made a statement.
Official decision pending, but signs are ominous. For the Mumbai Indians’ future, losing a senior player is never a good thing. Suryakumar Yadav will make a decision when the time is right for his career ahead.
