Virat Kohli has smashed over 9000 runs in the IPL. He’s the all-time leading scorer basically. The legend has hit 9 centuries in his career. He also scored 67 half-centuries which is crazy. His batting average sits at 40+ which is elite. The man is a legend in the IPL completely.

Kohli has played for RCB since the very beginning. He started with them in 2008. That’s when IPL was just starting out. He captained RCB for many years too. From 2013 to 2021 he led the team. But they never won the championship during his captaincy. That must have hurt him honestly.
Then RCB finally won in 2025. Rajat Patidar captained them to the title. Kohli was part of that winning team. He contributed with the bat throughout the season. Now he remains a key player for RCB.
Virat Kohli’s Record in Qualifier 1
But here’s the thing about Qualifier 1 matches. Kohli hasn’t played many of these games. RCB reached Qualifier 1 only 3 times total. And Kohli played in all three of them. His numbers from those matches are honestly not great.
Qualifier 1 matches are crucial knockout games. They decide who goes to the final. Kohli usually performs well in important matches. But his Qualifier 1 stats tell a different story. The pressure might affect him in these games.
His Three Qualifier 1 Matches Explained
In 2011 he played against Chennai Super Kings. Kohli scored an unbeaten 70 in that match. That was actually a good performance honestly. But RCB still lost the match badly. Chennai won by 6 wickets despite Kohli’s fifty.
Then in 2016 he faced the Gujarat Lions. That match went really badly for Kohli. He got out without scoring any runs. A duck in such a big match. That’s embarrassing for any top batter really. Pressure got to him that day probably.
In 2025 against Punjab Kings. Kohli scored just 12 runs. Again, he failed to make an impact. The pattern seems clear with Qualifier 1 matches. His big tournament experience doesn’t help here. Something about these matches rattles him.
Matches played: 3
Runs scored: 82
Highest score: 70*
What Does This Mean for IPL 2026
Kohli needs to change his Qualifier 1 record. His overall IPL stats are world-class. But these knockout matches show weakness. RCB reached Qualifier 1 again this year. Kohli has to perform better honestly. The team depends on his batting experience. His reputation demands better numbers in big games.
