A major update has arrived for the WPL 2026 season of the Women’s Premier League.
The BCCI has informed all franchises that they can retain a maximum of five players from their previous teams under the new Retention rules.

This can be done either through direct Retention or through the Right to Match (RTM) card.
Each team will have a total purse of ₹15 crore, from which the cost of retained players will be deducted.
Retention Date & Rules
Teams have until November 5th (Retention Date) to decide which players to retain. it can include a maximum of three Indian capped players, two overseas players, or two uncapped Indian players.
If the full five are to be retained, at least one uncapped player is required.
The prices are as follows: first Retention is ₹3.50 crore, second ₹2.50 crore, third ₹1.75 crore, fourth ₹1 crore, and fifth ₹50 lakh. This means that if you retain five players, you will receive a deduction of ₹9.25 crore, and the RTM will be zero.
If you retain four players, you will receive a deduction of ₹8.75 crore, and you will receive one RTM. Each uncapped player will receive only ₹50 lakh. If the team wishes, they can pay more, but that will be deducted from the extra purse.
Auction Dates Fixed
According to a report, the deadline for player registration is November 18 (Auction Date), and the final list of players for the WPL 2026 Auction will be shared by the BCCI on November 20.
The WPL 2026 Auction will take place between November 26 and 29, while the WPL 2026 Start Date is expected to be announced soon after. Teams retaining zero players will receive five RTMs, saving a total of ₹15 crore.
All this is clearly stated in the BCCI guidelines. Franchises are already beginning to plan ahead as the WPL 2026 Start Date draws closer, marking an exciting new chapter for the league.
