Yash Dayal Returns After 16-Month Absence
Yash Dayal returns to Uttar Pradesh’s competitive setup after 16 long months away. He was included in the state’s Ranji Trophy camp, as recently confirmed.
UPCA CEO Ankit Chatterjee confirmed Dayal remains available for selection currently. He reportedly performed well during recent trials and practice matches conducted beforehand.
This Ranji Trophy camp begins September 25 at Lucknow’s Ekana Cricket Stadium.
The Journey Behind This Uttar Pradesh Comeback
Dayal had earlier sought a no-objection certificate to represent Chhattisgarh instead. That move didn’t materialize after UPCA assured him of future Uttar Pradesh opportunities though. He hasn’t played competitive cricket since the IPL 2025 final.
During IPL 2025, he formed part of RCB’s strong pace attack alongside teammates. His 13 wickets contributed significantly toward RCB’s successful first-ever IPL title campaign. RCB retained him for IPL 2026, but he missed the entire season.
Understanding His Absence From Competitive Cricket
RCB’s director of cricket explained that selecting him wasn’t considered ideal at that time. This decision reportedly related to his personal situation during that particular period.
Dayal was also retained by Gorakhpur Lions for the UP T20 League separately. He reportedly began training with the franchise’s retained players during that stretch. Despite this, he was eventually left out of their final 18-member squad.
What Comes Next in This Ranji Trophy Camp
His formative coach, Amit Pal, confirmed Dayal remains in excellent current form. Pal said he performed exceptionally well throughout recent trial matches.
He added that Dayal remains fully ready given a genuine playing opportunity. The 2026-27 Ranji Trophy season begins October 11 as officially scheduled. Uttar Pradesh opens against Bihar at the newly built Rajgir International Stadium.
This marks Dayal’s potential return to competitive cricket since the 2025 IPL final.
