Former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa opens up about struggling with depression. The 38-year-old shared his experiences on his YouTube channel, discussing the tough times in his life. He talked about feeling “worthless” and “ashamed” of himself.

“You feel worthless, like you’re a burden to the people you love. You feel hopeless, and every step you take feels heavier… With each step, more weight is added to you,” Uthappa expressed. “I spent months not wanting to get out of bed. In 2011, I felt so ashamed of who I had become that I couldn’t even look at myself in the mirror,” he added.

Earlier this month, former England cricketer Graham Thorpe, who died at age 55, took his own life after a long battle with depression, as his wife Amanda disclosed.

Amanda stated, “Even with a wife and two daughters who loved him, he didn’t get better. He was very unwell recently and truly believed we would be better off without him. We’re heartbroken that he acted on that and took his own life.”

“My heart goes out to Graham Thorpe and his family. I can’t imagine what he went through to reach that point. My prayers are with his family, as well as with David Johnson from India, who faced similar struggles,” Uthappa said in his video.

Former Indian cricketer David Johnson, who played two Test matches in 1996, sadly passed away after falling from the balcony of his fourth-floor apartment in Bengaluru.

Sources indicate that Johnson had been dealing with health problems for the past year and had been hospitalized multiple times. He had just been discharged from the hospital three days prior to his death. Uthappa also mentioned VB Chandrasekhar, a former India opener and national selector, who committed suicide in 2019.

Uthappa shared that he initially did not realize he was suffering from clinical depression: “I didn’t even notice I was going through it. Something felt wrong with me. My head felt heavy, and my eyes, shoulders, legs, and feet felt heavy too. I couldn’t explain it.”
