Ben Stokes has recently retired from international cricket. But he wants to remain involved in cricket in any way. Recently, he spoke with Jos Buttler and Stuart Broad on the “For The Love” podcast and dropped a bombshell. Let’s understand his aspirations about England’s new cricketing role.
Ben Stokes’ Coaching Ambitions and England Head Coach Dreams
Ben Stokes has made it clear he wants to coach. He said he would absolutely love to become England’s Head Coach. He is currently completing his Level Three coaching qualification. He wants to finish his coaching credentials before retirement.
“I’m doing my level three coaching now while I’m still playing because I want, when the day comes that I’m not playing anymore, I’d love to be able to have all that stuff signed off and done.
So then I’ve got that option if I want to go into it, or if, you know, I wanna be, I don’t know, have a couple years off and just do whatever I wanna do.
But then I’ve always got that option there of being able to come, because I want to be a coach. I know what I wanna do in terms of staying within the game, which is to be a coach,” Stokes stated.
He believes his experience with leadership and responsibility matters. His experience could help him transition successfully into coaching. Stokes is comfortable making big decisions for the team.
Stokes’ International Career and Leadership Experience
Stokes recently ended his international playing career. He announced his retirement during England’s Test series against New Zealand. His retirement ended a 15-year international career successfully.
He also finished his four-year tenure as England Test Captain. His record in Test cricket was extremely impressive. He finished his international career with major achievements. He scored more than 11,000 runs across all formats. He also claimed over 300 wickets in cricket.
He played major roles in England’s 2019 ODI World Cup. He also helped win the 2022 T20 World Cup. As England Test captain, Stokes led the team successfully. In 44 Test matches, he recorded a total of 24 wins. His record included 18 defeats and 2 draws.
His record demonstrates his leadership capabilities and experience. Ben Stokes wants to remain in leadership roles. He wants to stay involved in the cricket world. His management credentials are strong and well-established there.
“And would I love to be coach of England one day? Absolutely, I would love to be able to do that. Do I think it’s gonna happen? I don’t know. Like, no idea. But, and then further on from that, I don’t know. I just really like the idea of being, again, like in some form of leadership away from playing,” he added.
Stephen Fleming’s Appointment and England Head Coach Future
Stephen Fleming has been appointed England’s new Test head coach. Fleming took over the Test coaching role officially following Brendon McCullum’s departure. McCullum remains England’s white-ball head coach in the position.
England men’s managing director Rob Key made comments that he could possibly return to cricket. Key said ‘anything is possible with Ben Stokes’.
This keeps the possibility slightly open for the future. Stokes expressed his coaching ambitions on a podcast. His comments came shortly after Fleming’s appointment announcement.
He remains committed to cricket involvement completely. His desire to coach shows his dedication clearly. The coaching path seems likely for him.
