Strange news comes from the Pakistan cricket team today. Shaheen Afridi kicked out of the Pakistan team one day after his ODI captain announcement. Nobody expected this to happen after his new role. The fast bowler will miss the entire T20I series against South Africa starting next week.

What Happened to Shaheen Afridi?
Pakistani selectors released the T20I squad list on Tuesday without Shaheen’s name. He became ODI captain on Monday but was fired from T20s the very next day. Cricket fans across the country are working to make sense of this odd decision.
Shaheen Afridi kicked out of the Pakistan squad alongside two other big stars, too. Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan will also stay out of the team during the South Africa matches. The selectors say they want to rest senior players and focus on youngsters.

Why Did Selectors Drop Senior Players?
Pakistan lost the Asia Cup 2025 final. This breaks everyone’s heart in Pakistan. The team failed when the pressure was highest. So now the selectors want to try younger cricketers instead of the same old faces.
Babar Azam’s bat has stopped making big scores lately. His form has dropped quite a bit in recent games. Salman Ali Agha will captain the team for this series. Shaheen had played both Tests against South Africa just days ago. Then, he got dropped from the T20 team.
Changes in the Pakistan Squad
The selectors plan to drop Khushdil Shah and Hussain Talat from the squad. Irfan Khan Niazi might make a comeback after being away. Naseem Shah could also return to wear the green shirt again.

Mohammad Haris will do the wicketkeeping job without Rizwan around. Saim Ayub stays in the team even though his bat hasn’t fired lately. Shaheen Afridi kicked out of the Pakistan team shows the board wants fresh blood now.
When Does the Series Start?
The first T20I starts on October 28, 2025 in Rawalpindi. The second and third games will happen in Lahore after that. Everyone hopes this gamble on youth works out for Pakistan cricket.
