42-year-old Amit Mishra has retired from all forms of cricket. This leg-spinner, who has been a part of the Indian team for years, will now be away from the field.
Recalling his journey, he said that cricket has given him a lot of memories.
What is the whole matter?
Mishra’s career started in 2003, when he made his international debut by playing the ODI series in Bangladesh.
Then in 2008, he made his Test debut against Australia in Mohali, where he took 5 wickets.
He took 76 wickets in 22 Tests, 64 in 36 ODIs and 16 in 10 T20s. His performance in domestic cricket and IPL was even more amazing.
Talking about IPL, Mishra played 162 matches, where he took 174 wickets at an average of 23.82. He is the only bowler to take three hat-tricks in the IPL.
The first in 2008 for Delhi Daredevils, the second in 2011 for Kings XI Punjab and the third in 2013 for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
His last match was for Lucknow Super Giants against Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2024.
What is the reason for retirement?
Mishra cited frequent injuries and giving chances to new players as the reason.
He told IANS, “The 25 years of my life in cricket have been memorable. I am grateful from the bottom of my heart to BCCI, the administration, Haryana Cricket Association, support staff, my colleagues and my family members who have been with me during this time.”
“I want to thank the fans whose love and support made this journey memorable whenever and wherever I played. Cricket has given me countless memories and invaluable lessons, and every moment spent on the field is a memorable moment that I will cherish for the rest of my life.”
