The IPL trade window has produced another headline before the next auction. Two big franchises are reportedly exploring a swap that could shift the balance. We explain who wants what and why the talks are tricky.

KKR and MI Reopen Talks Over a Star All-Rounder
Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders have reportedly restarted discussions about Hardik Pandya. The reports say MI want Harshit Rana and Angkrish Raghuvanshi in return.
Neither franchise has confirmed an agreement, so the deal remains under discussion. Both sides are expected to keep talking during the coming week.
Why KKR Want Hardik Pandya
KKR reportedly want Pandya as a possible captain after Ajinkya Rahane’s retirement. Pandya led Gujarat Titans to the title in their debut season in 2022. Rahane’s retirement left KKR searching for fresh leadership options for the new season.
KKR value both his leadership experience and his useful all-round skills. Chennai Super Kings also reportedly show interest, but they cannot offer him the captaincy.
What MI Want in Return
MI need an Indian wicketkeeper, so Angkrish Raghuvanshi interests them greatly. The 22-year-old has impressed in domestic cricket and the IPL. Raghuvanshi could strengthen MI’s Indian batting and fill their wicketkeeping gap.
Harshit Rana would add quality and depth to Mumbai’s pace attack. MI have also shown interest in Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ravi Bishnoi of Rajasthan Royals. They hope to add an Indian batter and a spinner.
Roadblocks in the Hardik Pandya Trade
KKR feel reluctant to release Raghuvanshi, whom head coach Abhishek Nayar strongly backs. The franchise also refuses to part with Sunil Narine, Varun Chakravarthy or Rinku Singh.
Fitness is another concern, because Pandya has not played a match since last IPL season. KKR had raised that concern before, so the talks remain complex. KKR may still prove a stronger destination than CSK if both sides agree on players.
Key Dates and Current Status
Franchises must submit retention lists by November 15, 2026, and the auction follows on December 16. MI want to settle Pandya’s future before that auction so they can plan retentions.
The Hardik Pandya Trade remains at the reported negotiation stage for now. As KKR and MI reopen talks, the player swap remains the biggest sticking point. We will follow the Hardik Pandya Trade and share updates when news arrives.
