Individual awards often highlight consistent excellence across long cricket seasons. Indian players have collected many of these honours since the award began. Here is a closer look at this truly impressive record.

How This Prestigious Monthly Award Works
The ICC introduced the ICC Player of the Month award in January 2021. It recognizes outstanding performances by international cricketers across all three formats.
Each month, the ICC shortlists three players based on their recent performances. An independent voting academy then chooses the winner. This academy includes former players, broadcasters and journalists from the cricket world.
Fans can also vote online, and their votes count for ten percent. India has produced more winners than any other country in this award.
Shubman Gill Leads Indian Cricketers With Five Awards
Shubman Gill, India’s ODI and Test captain, became the latest winner recently. He won the September 2026 award after an outstanding home ODI series. He scored 334 runs across the first two matches against West Indies.
This total included a century and an unbeaten double century. Abhishek Sharma and Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza were the other two nominees. Gill has now won five awards in total across his career.
He won in January and September 2023, then February and July 2025. His latest award came in September 2026 after this strong series.
Other Indian Winners Who Earned This Honour
Rishabh Pant became the first men’s winner, receiving the inaugural honour in January 2021. Ravichandran Ashwin won the award next, in February 2021 shortly afterward. Bhuvneshwar Kumar followed with his own award in March 2021.
In total, eleven different Indian men’s cricketers have won this prestigious award. Jasprit Bumrah and Shreyas Iyer have each won it twice already. This makes them the other multiple-time winners among Indian men’s players listed.
