A big fitness and planning story has surfaced ahead of India’s New Zealand tour. Fans want to know how one star bowler fits in.

Jasprit Bumrah may miss IND vs NZ ODI series, according to The Times of India. The report says he is fully fit, so injury is not the concern here. The team management reportedly wants to manage his workload instead. They also want him ready for the upcoming Test series in New Zealand.
Why Workload Matters for Indian Team
Management considers Bumrah’s availability for red-ball cricket more important right now. The World Test Championship is a major priority for India, and Bumrah matters a lot there.
The team wants to avoid overburdening him by playing across several formats without enough rest. He needs enough preparation and recovery time between matches in different formats.
Team management reportedly wants to protect him over the long term. Fans may see Jasprit Bumrah rest while others play the ODIs.
The India A Plan for Jasprit Bumrah
Bumrah is expected to play in the third multi-day match between India A and New Zealand A. That match runs from November 7 to 10, instead of him playing the ODIs.
It could give him valuable match practice and help him adjust to the conditions. Playing against New Zealand A could also build his readiness before the senior Test series.
He has reportedly started his red-ball preparation work in the city of Ahmedabad. He will report to the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru later in October.
The Bigger Picture
India also plays a five-match Test series against Australia in early 2027. Keeping Bumrah fit matters for that demanding series against Australia too.
His last red-ball match was the second Test against South Africa in Guwahati in November 2025. He then missed the next red-ball assignment with a knee injury. Jasprit Bumrah now has a clear plan to return to Test cricket.
