A new cricket shirt is about to take the field with a special story. It carries a message that goes far beyond runs and wickets. New Zealand to wear special jersey in its ODI series against India.

The series begins on November 4, 2026, during India’s tour of New Zealand. This limited-edition shirt marks 100 years of sporting ties with India. It celebrates a long friendship between the two cricket nations.
The special shirt is officially called the Kotahitanga ODI shirt. Kotahitanga is a Māori word that means unity and togetherness.
The design mixes Māori and Indian art traditions in one look. This blend reflects the cultural links and shared history between the two countries.
The Artists And Their Designs
Three talented artists created the design together as one creative team. Ben Thomson comes from Ngāti Raukawa’s Te Tonga in New Zealand. Shiv Narandas and Jay Pancha both come from Gujarat, India.
Thomson used Māori kōwhaiwhai patterns on a background of hehe lines. These patterns connect the living with those who have passed away. They also honour people who built ties between India and New Zealand.
Narandas and Pancha added three Indian motifs to the design. The lotus is India’s national flower and a well-known symbol. The ogee pattern repeats, inspired by Indian architecture.
The mandala is a symmetrical frame that fits Māori design ideas.
What The People Behind It Say
Glenn Critchley, New Zealand Cricket’s Chief Marketing and Commercial Officer, praised the shirt. He said it shows how sport brings different cultures together. He also liked the balance between Māori and Indian design elements.
Critchley hopes fans will cherish the jersey for many years. Thomson explained that unity guided the whole design from the start.
Narandas called the project rewarding and hopes people will wear the shirt with pride. Their words explain why New Zealand to wear special jersey matters so much.
The Bigger Message
The jersey honours players, supporters, and people working behind the scenes. Beyond sport, it celebrates cultural diversity, shared heritage, and mutual respect. This is why New Zealand to wear special jersey has become a heartwarming story.
Cricket once again shows its power to unite people across different cultures. The 100 years of sporting ties with India deserve exactly this kind of celebration.
