The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has dismissed reports about a virtual meeting with the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on November 26 to discuss the uncertainty over the Champions Trophy.
The ICC Champions Trophy tournament schedule has been delayed because the BCCI has said it cannot send the Indian team to Pakistan due to conflict between the two nations.
“We have no information from the ICC about any meeting between us, BCCI, and ICC,” a reliable PCB source told PTI.
The source also mentioned that the PCB has not received any response from the ICC regarding the email they sent, asking why India is unwilling to send its team to Pakistan.
Meanwhile, an ICC source shared that an internal meeting might take place on Tuesday to address the issue. “It is a virtual meeting of the Executive Board members to resolve the Champions Trophy schedule issue once and for all,” the source said.
The meeting is reportedly being held because the event’s broadcaster is pressuring the ICC to finalize the schedule. As told by several media, India’s participation will be crucial from the TRP point of view.
“There could be a vote on what to do—whether to hold the event in Pakistan, move it to another location, or adopt the Hybrid Model suggested by the BCCI, with India playing its matches in the UAE,” the source added.
The official noted that the PCB has taken a firm stand this time, insisting the Champions Trophy must take place in Pakistan. They are prepared to host any team.
The PCB has also stated they will not play their group match against India in Dubai if the Hybrid Model is adopted. One suggestion has been to place Pakistan and India in separate groups, but the broadcasters have opposed this idea due to the potential loss in revenue.
