Some fans believe Sanju Samson needs Shubman Gill out to open the innings. But the wicketkeeper-batsman thinks differently about this situation, actually. Sanju spoke about his current batting position change recently.

He moved from opening to middle-order after Shubman returned. The vice-captain, Shubman Gill now opens with Abhishek Sharma regularly. Samson accepted this team decision without any complaints. He’s ready to bat anywhere the team needs him.
Why Sanju Samson Lost the Opening Position
Rohit Sharma retired from T20I cricket after winning the World Cup 2024. Samson became the permanent opener initially after that change. He performed well in the opening position for several matches. Then, Shubman returned as vice-captain to the T20I squad.
The team management gave Shubman the opening slot back. This pushed Sanju down to the middle-order batting role. Many fans started asking if Sanju Samson needs Shubman Gill out. But Samson showed maturity by accepting his new batting position. He understands that team combinations matter more than personal preferences.

Sanju Samson’s Mature Response About Batting Order
Samson gave a very balanced statement about losing his spot. He said he’s willing to accept any role within the team. The wicketkeeper-batsman has already proved his adaptability in middle-order batting. Sanju contributed effectively despite the position change in matches.
“To be honest, I have played a lot of different roles for a lot of different teams. I have been part of this team for a long time now and have done different roles. I have opened the batting. I have finished matches.
“Now, I am batting in the middle order. Only the openers are fixed in this team. The rest of the batters have to be ready to bat at any time and in any situation. We are well prepared for that,” Sanju said.
Some people think Sanju Samson wish Shubman Gill out to succeed. But Samson doesn’t share this view at all, surprisingly. He focuses on team success over personal batting positions. Shubman brings leadership qualities as vice-captain to the side. Both Sanju and Shubman are crucial for India’s plans.
