India’s selectors have made a quiet but important change to their bowling plans. The decision reflects a careful look at the long schedule ahead. We explain the key details and the reasons behind them below.

Auqib Nabi Set to Replace Prasidh Krishna in NZ vs IND ODIs
Reports say India will add fast bowler Auqib Nabi to the squad for the first three matches. Selectors had first picked him only for the fourth and fifth matches.
Prasidh Krishna will miss the first three games because he has not fully recovered. His place in the squad had always depended on fitness clearance.
A BCCI source told PTI that Prasidh is recovering well and will take match simulation and fitness tests in Bengaluru on November 1 and 2.
The team management and selectors want him fully ready for the Test matches. They view his services in that format as more important than the ODI series. The ODI series matters but the Tests carry greater weight in the team’s plans.
Who Is Auqib Nabi?
Auqib Nabi is a fast bowler from Jammu and Kashmir who already plays international cricket. He made his ODI debut against the West Indies in Guwahati on September 30, 2026.
Nabi then played for India A against New Zealand A in Lincoln. He took 3 wickets in each innings and scored 38 runs off 63 balls while batting at No. 9. These performances highlight his all-round skills and add depth to India’s pace group.
Captains and Senior Stars
Shubman Gill will captain India in the first three ODIs. Shreyas Iyer will lead the team in the final two matches.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are part of the squad for all five ODIs. Jasprit Bumrah will rest during the ODIs but should play both Tests.
Auqib Nabi set to replace Prasidh Krishna remains a report until the BCCI confirms it. Krishna’s fitness tests on November 1 and 2 will shape the final picture. Early signs suggest adding Nabi to the squad is a sensible move.
