The Indian women’s cricket team finally achieved that big dream. After defeats in 2005 and 2017, Harmanpreet Kaur’s team won the ICC Women’s World Cup for the first time on November 2, 2025, defeating South Africa by 52 runs at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
Thousands of fans cheered at their home ground, and the entire country erupted in celebration. Shafali Verma played a blistering innings of 87 runs, while Deepti Sharma took five wickets to turn the match around.

ICC Distributes Record-Breaking Prize Money
In 2025, the ICC gave a major boost to women’s cricket. The total prize money was $13.88 million, or approximately ₹122.5 crore, three times more than the previous women cricket world cup.
Winner India received $4.48 million, equivalent to approximately ₹395.5 million.
Runner-up South Africa received $2.24 million, equivalent to approximately ₹197.7 million. Losing semi-finalists Australia and England were each awarded $1.12 million. Each group stage win included a $34,000 bonus.
The fifth-sixth-place teams received $700,000, and the seventh-eighth-place teams received $280,000. Each team also received a guaranteed $250,000 just for playing.
BCCI’s Mega Surprise Bonus for women’s cricket world cup 2025
The BCCI offered a significant reward for India’s victory. The board announced a reward of ₹510 million for the entire team, coach Amol Muzumdar, and support staff.
This is separate from the ICC’s amount. BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia said that Jay Shah has brought about a major change in women’s cricket, with pay parity and now this bonus. This is a true recognition of the players’ hard work.
This money will be deposited into the players’ bank accounts soon. Shafali was named Player of the Match, Deepti was named Star of the Tournament. Laura Wolvaardt was the leading run-scorer.
