The Bangladesh women’s cricket team faces serious allegations. Former player Jahanara Alam has made shocking claims against captain Nigar Sultana Joty. She says the captain physically abuses junior players.

Serious Allegations Against Team Captain
Jahanara Alam played 52 ODIs and 83 T20Is for Bangladesh. She claims Bangladesh cricket violence has been happening for months. The former cricketer says Joty beats up younger teammates regularly. These incidents allegedly occurred during the World Cup and Dubai tour.
“This is nothing new. Joty beats up the juniors a lot. Even during this World Cup, the juniors told me, ‘No, I won’t do this again. Then I’ll have to get slapped again.’ I heard from some people, ‘I got beaten up yesterday.’ Even during the Dubai tour, she called a junior into the room and slapped her,” Jahanara Alam said.
Alam feels the cricket system ignores these problems. This is a serious allegation, and BCB had come on the scene after the controversy.

BCB Denies All Claims
The Bangladesh Cricket Board strongly rejects these allegations. Officials call the claims “baseless” and “fabricated.” The BCB supports Captain Nigar Sultana Joty completely. They believe political games are being played within Bangladesh cricket.
“The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has taken note of recent remarks made in the media by a former member of the Bangladesh Women’s National Cricket Team, in which she has made a series of allegations against the current National Team Captain, players, staff and team management,” a BCB official said.
“The BCB categorically and strongly refutes these allegations, which are baseless, fabricated and devoid of any truth. The Board finds it unfortunate that such derogatory and scandalous claims have been made at a time when the Bangladesh Women’s Team is showing commendable progress and unity on the international stage.”
The board says some people want to damage Joty’s reputation. The captain accused of beating junior players has not responded publicly yet.
Background of the Controversy
Alam left the national team about a year ago. She reported mental health struggles at that time. The BCB says she asked to step away from cricket. However, Alam tells a different story now. She claims senior players faced pressure after a COVID training camp.
“Actually, I am not alone; everyone in the Bangladesh team is more or less a victim. Everyone’s suffering is different. Here, one or two people get advanced facilities, and in some cases, only one person gets them. In 2021, the process of eliminating seniors like me, along with a few others, from the post-COVID camp began,” Alam said.
The cricketer believes certain players get special treatment while others suffer. She says the captain accused of beating junior players creates a toxic environment.
