A promising young batter had a mixed day in Raipur. The story has two very different sides, one good and one bad.

What The ICC Decided
Shafali Verma faces ICC action after the second T20I against Zimbabwe. The match took place in Raipur on October 18, 2026. She dropped a catch at mid-off off Charani’s bowling while Mugeri-Tiripano was batting.
Her reaction after the missed chance led to the disciplinary action that followed. The ICC gave her an official reprimand and one demerit point.
The Rule And The Abuse Allegation
Shafali Verma faces ICC action under Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct. This rule covers abuse of cricket equipment, clothing, ground equipment, or fixtures.
So the abuse allegation concerns objects and equipment. It was her first offence within 24 months. She admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by match referee GS Lakshmi.
Therefore, no formal hearing was needed in this case at all.
A Match-Winning Innings
India restricted Zimbabwe to 102/8 in their innings with strong bowling. India then completed the chase in fewer than nine overs for a dominant win. Verma scored a quick 55 off just 25 balls in the chase.
She won the Player of the Match award for her aggressive half-century. The win gave India an unassailable lead in the T20I series.
Verma said she was happy with how she executed her shots. She said her dismissal in the first T20I affected her emotionally and disturbed her sleep. She tried to control her thoughts and focus on the next game.
“Yeah, of course. What I’m trying to hit the shots, it’s going. So really happy. What I want, it’s executing,” Verma said. “After yesterday’s match, I can’t even sleep, the way I got out in first match.”
What Comes Next
India were scheduled to play the third T20I in Raipur on October 20, 2026. Verma also aimed to keep her strong batting form going in that match. The abuse allegation did not stop her from delivering a strong innings.
The incident shows that the ICC enforces its conduct rules strictly. It also shows that she can perform well despite small setbacks. Shafali Verma faces ICC action, yet she keeps her form.
