India’s training sessions often attract close attention from fans and the media. One small detail from the nets has now sparked plenty of curiosity. We explain what happened and what it could mean for the team.

Shubman Gill Used a Temple Device in Auckland
Captain Shubman Gill wore an unreleased fitness tracker on his forehead while batting in the nets. He trained at Eden Park in Auckland and spoke with head coach Gautam Gambhir.
The wearable then caught the attention of fans, reporters and everyone watching the session. That session took place on Thursday ahead of the three-match ODI series.
India face New Zealand in three ODIs, starting on November 4, 2026. The series forms a key part of India’s build-up for the 2027 World Cup in South Africa.
Teams use such sessions to sharpen skills and test new ideas. That makes any new tool in the nets worth watching.
What Is the Temple Device?
Temple is a wearable that sits on the forehead rather than the wrist. Zomato co-founder Deepinder Goyal founded the venture that developed the device. Unlike most trackers it collects data from the forehead instead of the finger.
It reportedly uses light-based sensors to track cerebral blood flow and oxygenation. It also tracks nervous system responses and cognitive workload during physical activity.
The tool could help athletes understand how their bodies handle physical and mental stress. Cricketers face frequent travel, jet lag and limited recovery time on tours.
However, reports do not prove that the device improves athletic performance. They also do not explain how India’s team plans to use its data. Temple is not on sale yet so independent experts cannot judge its effectiveness.
Gill’s Reaction and Wider Interest
RevSportz reports that Gill felt impressed by the early biofeedback and data. Reports of Shubman Gill used a Temple Device have not drawn a public comment from him. The NZ vs IND ODIs Practice Session offered no official explanation on this point. Badminton star PV Sindhu also tested the device earlier, so interest spans several sports.
